AUDITION INFORMATION FOR OPERA The UGA Opera Theatre (Opera Department) at the Hugh Hodgson School of Music is conducting a search for three new Graduate Assistantship positions to begin in the Fall 2021. These available positions are for a soprano, mezzo-soprano, and a collaborative pianist in opera coaching. Auditions for these positions will take place online on the following dates and at the discretion of the Director: January 23, 2021 January 30, 2021 February 6, 2021 Auditions will continue to be open until the positions are filled. Opera candidates will need to present arias from a variety of periods and languages. The position will provide full tuition and an annual living stipend for the Masters or DMA degrees in Vocal Performance. The UGA Opera Theatre presents two full opera productions with orchestra in large theaters each year and one opera scenes program plus a variety of smaller venue concerts. The opera department provides a training program with the objective to prepare all Graduate Assistants for entry into a professional opera career. Participants are asked to perform major leading roles in traditional operatic repertoire. Training in vocal technique, languages, acting, performance styles, audition skills and under the direction of Frederick Burchinal, International/Metropolitan Opera Baritone veteran, and Kathryn Wright, International Principal Opera Coach, both with decades of experience with major opera houses world-wide.
